Obama's Defense Chief Backs Actions of Troops in WikiLeaks Video

Does this mean that the official Obama administration position condones the Bush-era 'Collateral Murder' done in the infamous WikiLeak video?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A video showing U.S. Apache helicopters killing 12 people, including two Reuters news staff, is painful to watch but an investigation into the attack was very thorough, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Sunday.

"It's unfortunate. It's clearly not helpful. But by the same token, I think -- think it should not have any lasting consequences," Gates said of the 2007 videotape when interviewed on the ABC News "This Week" program.

The U.S. forces involved were in combat, he said, and were operating in "split-second situations."

The stark helicopter gunsight video of the July 12, 2007, attack has been widely viewed around the world on the Internet since its release on April 5 by the group Wikileaks, which promotes leaks to fight government and corporate corruption.

Some international law and human rights experts say the Apache helicopter crew in the footage may have acted illegally. The video includes an audio track of a helicopter crew conversation. Many have been shocked by the images and some of the fliers' comments.

"It's obviously a hard thing to see. It's painful to see, especially when you learn after the fact what was going on. But you -- you talked about the fog of war. These people were operating in split-second situations," Gates said.

Hearings provide a platform for veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan to share the reality of their occupation experiences with the media in the US

On Monday, April 5, Wikileaks.org posted video footage from Iraq, taken from a US military Apache helicopter in July 2007 as soldiers aboard it killed 12 people and wounded two children. The dead included two employees of the Reuters news agency: photographer Namir Noor-Eldeen and driver Saeed Chmagh.

The US military confirmed the authenticity of the video.

The footage clearly shows an unprovoked slaughter, and is shocking to watch whilst listening to the casual conversation of the soldiers in the background.

As disturbing as the video is, this type of behavior by US soldiers in Iraq is not uncommon.

Truthout has spoken with several soldiers who shared equally horrific stories of the slaughtering of innocent Iraqis by US occupation forces.

"I remember one woman walking by," said Jason Washburn, a corporal in the US Marines who served three tours in Iraq. He told the audience at the Winter Soldier hearings that took place March 13-16, 2008, in Silver Spring, Maryland, "She was carrying a huge bag, and she looked like she was heading toward us, so we lit her up with the Mark 19, which is an automatic grenade launcher, and when the dust settled, we realized that the bag was full of groceries. She had been trying to bring us food and we blew her to pieces."

CoOlDiGgY WOMEN OF THE WEEK -
1) Brooksley Born

Brooksley Born was the lone voice in the dark about the impending doom that was coming to our economy - in 1998! The holy trinity of finance - former privately-owned Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, former Goldman Sachs-CEO-turned-Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, and advisor Lawrence Summers - these were the guys with the answers. That's what the media told us and they should be listened to, right? She was ignored and forced out of her job as the one in charge of looking over the credit default swaps (one of the major cuases of our current Great Recession).

The good times rolled on for a few of more years. Bigger brains prevailed because Greenspan, Rubin, and Summers were just so genius that, of course, our nation's financial policy should be ruled by them. No questions asked.

Ms. Born was proven right - AGAIN this week when Greenspan and Rubin, two of the corrupt and arrogant trinity, testified before Congress and admitted slight fault. And what of the third guy, Larry Summers? Don't worry, he's President Obama's lead economic adviser. Yay!

We're sure, Brooskley Born would love to say she told them so but she'll have to settle for being CoOlDiGgY's Woman of the Week

2) Bristol Palin

Like hypocritical mother like hypocritical daughter. We'll let Gather.com break it down:

The latest PSA from Bristol Palin has to be a double standard. Giving kids the impression it is okay to get pregnant based on your social status and wealth. Focusing on what she has, Palin tells kids not to get pregnant if they aren't implied rich.

Who takes advice from a person who acts entitled?

Making mistakes in life decisions have never been about the amount of money in your pocket, but it does have to do with desire. Only addressing how wealthy she is and how much time it takes her to care for her child Bristol Palin comes across entitled in the commercial.

What do you think?

3) Dixie Carter

Dixie Carter, star of the 1980s sitcom Designing Women, died at the age of 70. We loved watching that show as a youth and wondered why the character Anthony, who lived and worked with 4 hot women, never tried to make a move on them. Then we moved to Los Angeles and the answer was obvious. The other obvious thing: Dixie Carter was one of the best comedic actresses ever. RIP

4) Sarah Palin

This week, Sarah Palin debuted a TV show on Fox News and championed the Tea Party movement. Though, not the actual grassroots Tea Party movement, but the sanitized & corporate version of the Tea Party. The Nestea Iced Tea Party. Yeah, Sarah Palin is a real reformer (please add sarcasm). What's her point? Can we please stop covering her, Mr. Editor? (editor: no, you either cover Mrs. Palin or say goodbye to your precious dog, Toby) That's your dog, Mr. Editor (editor: Oh No! What have I done?) So, I'm going to saw these chains off, escape, call the LAPD, and never cover Sarah Palin again. Yes, I know these are pictures of singer Lisa Loeb. She's the official CoOlDiGgY Sarah Palin avatar. B'bye. (editor: ha! that wasn't my dog Toby at all. Just some kid. Hey, where's that copy writer? Looking, for writing talent, please email us)

Amy Winehouse Breast ALERT

TERRIFIED AMY WINEHOUSE has been rushed to hospital with agonizing pains from her boob implants.

The 26-year-old Rehab singer was kept in overnight while doctors carried out urgent tests.

She is now waiting to discover whether she must undergo corrective surgery - or even have the 32D implants removed.

A family friend said: "Amy was in agony and became convinced it was something to do with her boobs.

"She thought she would leave it for a while but the pain got worse. She went into the clinic on Thursday and they kept her under observation.
Curves

"She is waiting for a decision on whether the implants have to come out or not."

Amy has gone back to the same top private surgery where her boob enhancement was carried out last year. The troubled star paid £35,000 in October to restore the curves she boasted before she developed her serious drug habit.

CoOlDiGgY Big Balls of the Week

Dylan Ratigan

He's one of the few bright spots on the allegedly liberal cable news(?) network MSNBC. Dylan Ratigan has been very truthful about the big issues and has gone with facts even when it hurts MSNBC's boss - President Obama. He's the only one on the network to cite that the Wall Street bailout actually costs northwards of $23 Trillion (with a "T"), that the wars are bad (remember anti-war Democrats? So long ago), and that the health insurance companies LOVE the new health reforms (but Fox said...). He shows the big testicles this week by breaking down, near-perfectly, the privately-owned Federal Reserve con game that is this economy. This is the kind of stuff that got him fired from CNBC. Enjoy MSNBC's Dylan Ratigan now before they Howard Beele him like they did Olbermann
