Bishop Blames Jewish People for Sex Scandal Row

Bishop's hideous and unfounded anti-Semitic attacks are a setback to a church trying to repair its image in the wake of a sex scandal cover-up by the current Pope. Is the sleeping giant of institutional anti-Semitism awake with some of the church hierarchy?

A furious transatlantic row has erupted over quotes that were attributed to a retired Italian bishop, which suggested that Jews were behind the current criticism of the Catholic church's record on tackling clerical sex abuse.

A website quoted Giacomo Babini, the emeritus bishop of Grosseto, as saying he believed a "Zionist attack" was behind the criticism, considering how "powerful and refined" the criticism is.

The comments, which have been denied by the bishop, follow a series of statements from Catholic churchmen alleging the existence of plots to weaken the church and Pope Benedict XVI.

Allegedly speaking to the Catholic website Pontifex, Babini, 81, was quoted as saying: "They do not want the church, they are its natural enemies. Deep down, historically speaking, the Jews are God killers."

The interview was spotted on Friday by the American Jewish Committee, which said Babini was using "slanderous stereotypes, which sadly evoke the worst Christian and Nazi propaganda prior to world war two".

Is the World's Second Biggest Economy On the Ropes?

Debt, declining population, unfavorable immigration, and older demographics - these are recipes for disaster for Japan

Iceland has approximately the 101st biggest economy in the world.

Dubai is also tiny.

Greece is somewhat bigger, with the 27th biggest economy.

When Iceland, Dubai and Greece tanked, that was horrible ... but not catastrophic.

Portugal - the 37th biggest economy - may be next. It would be horrible if Portugal tanks.

But Spain is also in real trouble. As the 9th biggest economy, a default by Spain could be major.

But none of these are in the same ballpark as Japan - the world's 2nd biggest economy. Only the U.S. is bigger.

So it is newsworthy that S & P cut Japan's sovereign credit rating

Collateral Murder: US Troops Fire on Bus of Civilians in Kandahar

US troops open fire on bus as Afghans were on their way to work. Some of the wounded, 18 so far, were in critical condition, and the death toll could rise as five civilians had been killed, including one woman

KABUL, Afghanistan — American troops raked a large passenger bus with gunfire near the southern city of Kandahar on Monday morning, killing as many as five civilians and wounding 18, Afghan authorities and survivors said.

The attack infuriated Kandahar leaders and could harm public opinion before perhaps the most important offensive of the war, a campaign that is intended to take control of the Kandahar region from the Taliban this summer.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered around a bus station on the western outskirts of Kandahar, shouting anti-American chants and blocking the road for an hour, according to people in the area.

The American military confirmed the shooting but there were disputes over details, including whether the troops who fired on the bus had first shot flares and warned the driver to stay back.

One of the bus passengers and a man who identified himself as the driver said that an American convoy about 70 yards ahead of the bus opened fire as the bus began to pull to the side of the road to allow another military convoy traveling behind to pass.

The two convoys and the bus were on the main highway in Sanzari, about 15 miles west of Kandahar city. All of the windows on one side of the bus were shot out.

Troops opened fire on the bus just after daybreak as it was taking dozens of passengers to Nimruz Province, said Zalmy Ayoubi, a spokesman for the Kandahar provincial governor.

Some of the wounded were in critical condition, and the death toll could rise, local officials said.

What do your IRS taxes really pay for?

In this unique Federal Reserve/Federal Government relationship the IRS works as the “Taxing Arm For The FED” – NOT the Federal Government which is prohibited from direct taxing at Article 1 section 9 clause 4 of the Constitution

Most taxpayers have no idea what their federal income taxes actually provide. When I ask folks if they know where their IRS check goes I get answers from, “…it pays for the operation of the Federal Government.” to, “… hummm, I really don’t know.” Actually both answers are partially true. Why were the IRS and the Federal Reserve created by the same act of Congress — what is their relationship to the Federal Government?

About a year ago, I made the assertion that the Federal Reserve through the IRS has the power to tax directly by congressional action and indirectly by inflation. It is very easy to see when you understand the “not quite governmental, not quite private” structure of the Federal Reserve System and its taxing arm the IRS.

Here is how it works. Congress passes a law, the House appropriates the funds. The Federal Treasury Department prints the notes for the appropriation. Then the Federal Reserve purchases these notes/paper at the cost of printing, about 4 cents note. A $1bill, $100 bill, or $1000 bond, costs the same 4 cents. The Federal Reserve then loans this money back to the Federal Government at interest based on face value. This interest rate may fluctuate. The cash is then distributed to the regional Federal Reserve banks from which the appropriations are disseminated as per the Congressional mandate.

Now, as the interest climbs with each appropriation, this debt requires payment your taxes – and occasionally the taxes must be increased to keep up with the “can never be paid off by design, debt”. The Federal Reserve profits greatly on this value created out of thin air paid by IRS collected taxes, and OUR REAL ASSET collateral on loans that go into foreclosure/confiscation.

Periodically, the Federal Reserve will ask Congress for an increase in money supply. This indirectly taxes folks by pumping cash into the economy which decreases the buying power of the dollar. This makes it seem as though prices have risen – not the case, the money added causes the value of the dollar to drop. This is the inflation tax. A tax that causes big problems for people with savings or on fixed incomes. The frightening thing is, the FED-IRS has NEVER had it’s books opened to Congressional scrutiny.

The Obama Doctrine: Kill, Don't Detain

George Bush left a big problem in the shape of Guantánamo. The solution? Don't capture bad guys, assassinate by drone

In 2001, Charles Krauthammer first coined the phrase "Bush Doctrine", which would later become associated most significantly with the legal anomaly known as pre-emptive strike. Understanding the doctrine with hindsight could lead to a further understanding of the legacy that the former administration left – the choice to place concerns of national security over even the most entrenched norms of due process and the rule of law. It is, indeed, this doctrine that united people across the world in their condemnation of Guantánamo Bay.

The ambitious desire to close Guantánamo hailed the coming of a new era, a feeling implicitly recognised by the Nobel peace prize that President Obama received. Unfortunately, what we witnessed was a false dawn. The lawyers for the Guantánamo detainees with whom I am in touch in the US speak of their dismay as they prepare for Obama to do the one thing they never expected – to send the detainees back to the military commissions – a decision that will lose Obama all support he once had within the human rights community.

Worse still, a completely new trend has emerged that, in many ways, is more dangerous than the trends under Bush. Extrajudicial killings and targeted assassinations will soon become the main point of contention that Obama's administration will need to justify. Although Bush was known for his support for such policies, the extensive use of drones under Obama have taken the death count well beyond anything that has been seen before.

Google CEO and Obama Activist Wants Machines to Pick News

Drudge reports this morning that Google CEO Eric Schmidt wants Google’s machines to select what news you read on its website.

“News sites should use technology to predict what a user wants to read by what they have already read, Schmidt told the American Society of News Editors, where a few humans still remained in the audience,” writes Drudge.

Schmidt wants to be challenged through technology that “directs readers” to a story with an “opposing” view.

Schmidt is a staunch Obama partisan. In 2008, at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, he took the stage and said the internet gave Obama the ability to bypass traditional media and claim the Democratic nomination. “I’m doing this personally,” Schmidt said. “Google is officially neutral.”

IBM software to help states grab back taxes

The company that made it possible for the Nazis to track Jews during the Holocaust is now metaphorically tattooing the arms of Americans so states can balance their budgets. All during an unprecedented economic downturn

States hungry to grab billions in back taxes can now call in the big guns in the form of IBM.

Big Blue announced on Monday new Tax Collections Optimizer software designed to help state governments more effectively collect money owed from deliquent taxpayers.

The software uses data analytics to determine the total amount of back taxes owed. It then compares those findings with the existing workload and available staffing at state tax agencies and recommends the best methods for collecting those taxes.

Specifically, the software analyzes certain taxpayer information, such as the total amount of money due and an individual's past tax payment history. It then determines how tax collection agents can most effectively follow up and deal with each delinquent taxpayer, given the limited time and resources of each agent, IBM said.

Mickelson Wins Masters

AUGUSTA, Georgia (AP)—Phil Mickelson ended a trying year by shooting a 5-under 67 for a three-stroke win over England’s Lee Westwood and an emotional third Masters title Sunday.

As Mickelson strolled up to the 18th green, his third green jacket as good as won, he wondered if his wife would be waiting for him.

She’d been there the first two times he won the Masters, but he would’ve understood if she decided to skip this victory celebration.

Yet there she was, waiting with an embrace they’ll remember for a lifetime.

“I normally don’t shed tears over wins,” Mickelson said, his eyes watering. “When Amy and I hugged off 18, that was a very emotional moment for us. I’ll cherish every moment of this week.”

Eleven months ago, Amy Mickelson was diagnosed with breast cancer. While the prognosis is good, she’s worn down physically. It’s difficult to get out among the crowds at a place like Augusta National.

Yup, Oprah & John Tesh Dated

Oprah Winfrey and John Tesh were once a live-in couple? Get out of here!

In one of the more eyebrow-raising excerpts from Kitty Kelley’s new biography of Oprah, the author reports the talk show queen and Tesh, a 6’6” composer, syndicated radio host and longtime host of ET, were a romantic item in Nashville in the 1970s, according to the New York Daily News.

The News said the book - due out Tuesday - reports they shared an apartment there until Tesh bolted in the middle of the night, unable to take the social pressure of being half of an interracial couple.

On Monday, Tesh told the News, "Oprah and I were cub reporters in Nashville nearly 40 years ago and we dated for a short time."

He added, “we remain friends to this day.”
